When I chose Digital Enviroments as my subject in the elctive choices I did not have a clue what that could mean to me as an individual person. I researched quite a bit, and found that the answers given to me were too vague… When my first class approached I started getting a few clues, and I found them very interresting. There was a question that I asked myself, What is DIGITAL? and that was the first question we were asked, in our first session as students. here was loads of different answers from everyone,I think everyone was just s confused as I was.We all know what it is, but maybe not the terms of it.I felt pretty clueless. Everyones answers were right, because Digital can mean different things.

Digital is…the opposite to analogue.Entertainment as news,games and virtual realities.Everything you need, to do in real life you can do dgitally. Mass consoumption. Mass collboration and Globalisation. Social Networking. Banking. Sharing files. Controlling people to a sertain extent ,or maybe fully. Phones, buisnesses and etc…

Digital is so many things. And therfore it creates a lot of debates and questions. People wonder wether it is good thing that everything is becoming digital or bad thing, how it affects them, and where will it all go.

I find those questions quite complicated as there is so much positive things that come out of it,as it is with negative things aswell. Ilove the fact that I can have the option before me to make my life easier and to spear some time to be wth my loved ones.I wake up I check my mail, everything takes seconds to update. I can reply in an instance,I have the choice of phoning, texting , mailing or have a video conference.When I am done, I have some food shopping to do- I go Online. 5minutes later its done, my food will be here half an hour later. I need to check my balance in the bank, after I have done my food shopping, -Done! 2 minutes it took me ,I ave some more time leftover to browse my brain in the mayhem and influences of the internet, then I can clean the house for my family. If I need anything else everything is available for me. I want to take a family photograph of our family- Great!Ive got a digital camera, which saves me the time and hastle of printing , ajusting and loosing a memorable event like that. If I want to do something artisic I hae a whole range of software that will make it easier for me, like photoshop, illustrator and many moore!

All of this is such a great breaktrough and it all happened during a short space of time ,something like ten years? In the old days, the analogue days it could takesomething like 20,30 years, now everything is is becoming accessible for us to ue, ad it ll happens very quicly, everyday almost, there is some new technology that is coming out on to the market. Some people take the use of technology to their advantage, whilst others are more oldfashioned about these things and simply not bothered about it at all.

In my opinion people should embrace the digital technology that surrounds us, but also show awareness of the “bad” experiences that you would like to avvoid, like fraud and all of the other negativity. Its like in real life- you wouldnt want to be ran over by a truck , therfore you follow the green light when its green and red when its red, and on top of it, you look to the sides, there can always pop up a dinkdriver around the corner-therfore you always need to be aware.

What do peple really want? – Do I want to be a part of a mayhem, that I do not know where its going to lead me?I am already a part of this mayhem, and it is unescapable. Is this a way of keeping track of people, and contolling them like little puppets from a higher power above ?I dont know, I know that from the first time I ever touched a PC ( which I cant remember when it was) I have been presented with temptations of using different programmes that are sociable,the first programme I remember, was a game Lara Croft- (Tomb Raider),It made me want to play over and over again,and I was more at home-playing by myself, than being with my friends.That was my first experience of the expanded mass consumption of games, sosial networks and modernisation of media. Since that time, everything has just flourished towards everything being available for any person on the net ,almost like a personal Robot, You can see your friends on the internets different sosial networks, you can do your foodshopping in a matter of minutes,you can do your banking there, you can do a fulltime job there, and all of that and much moore you can do without even getting up of the sofa. Is someone trying to controll us? Or has everything just been ajusted to our wishes and couriousness, of how far we can go?Is there a limit?

I feel that there is so much positive about this, as it is negative, It is timesaving and helpfull ,and at the same time, the “Sosial networks” can also mean ” Anti-Social”.

People are being influenced both in positive an negative ways. I think its up to people to rethink, everything they see and hear twice, thats why we are humans , we have intellect.

My thoughts about this lecture are abit mixed, I feel that Rupert Murdoch actually has a point about the fact that he wants people using google to watch news, to pay, because newspapers could have more profit from it.I think the newspapers are loosing money from people looking at them for free, most peoples choice will probably be to look at it for free , rather than paying for it. ~I would anyway..

At the same time the Issue has gotten so much out of hand that I doubt there is any people who will now agree to pa for something they have been able to look at for free for ages. Rupert Murdoch probably has enough power to put his regulations in place anyway, thanks to his power.

His Ideas might also come from the need to close the ” open ” internet, to be able to control mostly everything and so that people will stop making “free” money of the internet.

Which I totally understand ~ this world is all about ~ POWER.

Online communities are replacing the oldfashion ways of passing knowledge and skills onto younger generations.

People are more at home and by themselves, and younger people in particular, because they have all sorts of new technology available to them.

Older people on the other hand get together, and share their stories and experiences with eachother. Thats their way of communicating.

The Unity Panda founders wanted to create an experiment /documentation about these different types of people, who created the same item( knitted panda -lifesize) in the different enviroments. They came to our lecture to get some feedback from us students, on how we felt about the project and what advice we could give to them.

Slowmoving , round, stomping feet, marking territory , eating trees /bambus,

~ my idea : All the communities to meet in the same location ( gallery,with all the progress hung up in the space as installation)

and dress themselves into the lifesize pandasuits-without possibility of recognising eachother ( bringing them together and out of their comfortzone)

To me it seemed like the founders of Unitypanda did not really know where they were going with the project, but they were learning more as they progressed.

I like the fact that they interract with people to get the project to where they want it to be. I think the project has a very big potential, if they listen to their advices from people from the different communities, because people can then relate to it and it then becomes interresting.
